Loving Family Man

Mr. Luigi Velardi, 79, of New Haven, formerly of Waterbury, died Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Rosa (DiPaola) Velardi, and widower of Maria (Santopietro) Velardi.

Luigi was born in San Lupo, Benevento, Italy, on February 12, 1933, son of the late Francesco and Cira (Bosso) Velardi.

He came to this country and settled in Waterbury on July 4th 1958. He was employed at J.E.Smith & Co. as a cabinetmaker. Then he became the union steward at Scovill /Century Brass, and he later retired as a carpenter for the City of Waterbury. He enjoyed traveling especially his trips to Florida with his wife Rosa and his sister Maria and her husband Carlo.

Besides his wife, he leaves, three brothers, Ottavio Velardi and his wife Catherine of Watertown, Antonio Velardi and his wife Maria of Sydney, Australia, Aldo Velardi and his wife Annunziata of San Lupo, Italy, a sister, Maria “Lina” Perugini and her husband Carlo of Watertown, stepchildren, Cosimo and Daniela Amorotti both of New Haven two grandchildren, Christian and Gabriella Amorotti, several nieces, nephews, including Claudio and Sharon Perugini, Carl and Mary Perugini, Luigi and Michelle Velardi, Cathy Velardi, and several great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Giovanni & Arnaldo Velardi, and a sister, Edda Casoli.

Arrangements: Funeral Saturday 9 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury to St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, Watertown for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
